Gusts around 50 to 60 mph can lift and tear older shingles. Stronger gusts can damage newer roofs, especially at edges and corners.
Can lifted shingles be sealed back down?
If they are not creased or torn, they can be resealed. Creased shingles should be replaced.
Does insurance cover a tree falling on my roof?
Usually, when a storm brings it down. If the tree was dead or rotten, insurers may argue it was preventable. Ask your agent.
How soon should I fix storm damage?
Cover open areas right away and repair before the next heavy rain. Waiting can turn a small repair into decking and ceiling damage.
